INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY

Laurel Ridge focuses on making real estate investments that provide shareholders with high, risk-adjusted returns. We take our role as a fiduciary for investors very seriously. The priority we place on our obligations to our investment partners is reflected in our deal structures, management philosophies, and operating decisions.

We focus on US commercial real estate and real estate backed vehicles, matched against our belief of where we are in each market cycle. Laurel Ridge’s real estate acquisitions are oriented towards long-term ownership in markets experiencing net migration. These investments are likely to have strong cash flows, long-term debt, and mitigated tenant risk in a downturn capable of providing returns above inflation and able to withstand the interest rate volatility we've recently experienced.

PROCESS

Our investment process is founded on three principles:

  1. Fundamentals Drive Deals

    Details matter. Confidence in the big picture comes from in-depth knowledge and practice in the small things. We work to reduce the likelihood of investment risk through systematized processes focused around the specific factors that drive any investment.

  2. Investment Strategies Don’t Live in a Vacuum

    There is a season for everything. Just as the market changes over time, so should our approach to it. While we’ll always be opportunistic investors focused on creating positive, risk-adjusted returns, that philosophy embodies itself differently at various points in each cycle.

  3. Every Investment is an Investment in People

    Relationships make all the difference. Investments don’t make themselves. We can have all the fundamentals and strategy in the world, but if we pick bad partners, we’re unlikely to succeed. Great investments are built around great people whose abilities and ethics make all the difference.

ABOUT US

Laurel Ridge is built upon the belief that real estate is the best asset class for long-term wealth preservation and growth. Laurel Ridge was formed because of the opportunity in middle market properties that often are not big enough to attract larger institutional clients, but offer some of the best risk-adjusted returns.

Bert de Alejo

Bert de Alejo a third-generation professional real estate investor and operator focused on multi-family and industrial properties with over sixteen years of experience. Starting his career in single family development, he worked on the construction of master planned communities throughout the country. Before joining Laurel Ridge, he was a partner in a Florida based real estate investment firm for ten years, where he directly oversaw the renovation and operation of 18,000+ multi-family units and led the transactions of multi-family properties in excess of $1.5 billion. Bert graduated from Georgetown University, has an M.B.A. from the University of South Florida, and is a licensed general contractor and real estate broker in the State of Florida. He lives with his wife and two children in his hometown of Tampa, Florida.

Joe Facchini

Joe Facchini was the Chief Investment Officer at a national real estate investment firm which invested over $1 billion in real estate under his leadership before joining Laurel Ridge. Prior to that, he specialized in structured credit market investments, as Managing Director for ICE, Director for ICAP, and Vice President for Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley. Joe holds a degree from Princeton University. He enjoys reading, photography, and is an Assistant Scoutmaster of Hoboken BSA Troop 146. He lives in Weehawken, New Jersey with his wife and four children.

Ozzie Mutz

Ozzie Mutz has been involved in over $1 billion of commercial real estate transactions over the past decade. Before founding Laurel Ridge, he led acquisitions and asset management for a national multifamily company with $1.5 billion of assets under management. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Operations and Investor Relations for an opportunistic real estate investment firm. Ozzie has a degree in Finance from the University of Florida. He enjoys Formula One and loves all things outdoors; in particular, he is an avid cyclist and an out-of-shape backpacker. He lives in Tampa, Florida with his wife and four sons.
